== The Project == The assignment for this project was create a composition that used elements of both flat 2D figures and 3D elements such as shading and space. It made me think about how to effectively communicate what I was trying to achieve with the piece. == My Process == Before I started on this art project I had to figure out a composition that I could make both 2D and “3D”. I eventually chose a hand coming out of a frame with crystals dangling from the fingers because I had been recently obsessed with drawing hands and I thought that the contrast between the organic shape of the hand and the geometric shape of the frame and crystals would be interesting. Then I had to create a rough sketch which I then transferred on to my final paper and added markers and colored pencil. The steps in making this work of art that were most important to me were that I drew the fingers from the correct point of view.One part of the process that was a little difficult for me was leaving the 2D “flat” portions alone. I’m so used to creating high contrast and high-value projects that it felt a little wrong to simply leave it flat. | "Reach"== Conclusion == |
== The Theme ==
My drawing doesn’t particularly represent anything. I simply wanted to practice drawing hands and crystals and so I created a composition that allowed for that. I’m pleased with how it turned out, but I didn’t particularly have any specific meaning in mind when I drew it. I suppose I meant for it to be “beautifully creepy” because the position of the hand is awkward and unnatural but the crystals are rather attractive and striking.
