BRIAN WOO (DR. WOO) |
Brian Woo (aka Dr. Woo) may be LA's most famous tattoo artist. He works at the elite Shamrock Social Club in West Hollywood and has gained quite a following (over half a million followers on Instagram alone). The 33-year old started messing around with tattoos at the age of 13 and was later scooped up by Shamrock's owner Mark Mahoney. Woo uses one needle for his tattoos, relying on layout, detail, and line work to create his masterpieces. His unique, monochromatic, fine-line creations have sparked a buzz amongst celebrities as well as the general public and due to the recent rise of fashion tattoos, Woo has become widely renown and requested. He's tattooed celebrities such as Drake, Ellie Goulding, and Cara DeLevine. They range anywhere from $250 to upwards of $2000 and his waiting list is well over 6 months. He says that tattoos used to be considered a "job stopper" but "nowadays, if you don't have a tattoo, you're considered square!" I find his tattoos to be extremely interesting, His use of mixed geometric and organic figures, as well as his attention to the smallest detail, is striking.

PEONY YIP (WHITE DEER) |
Peony Yip is a graduate of the Hong Kong Design Institute and currently works as a graphic designer at TOP-TOY Ltd. Just recently taking illustrating more seriously, she has already caught the attention of many critics. She produces stunning prints, pencil drawings, and watercolors, all with emotional subject matter designed to invoke a viewer response. Peony draws inspiration from nature as well as pop culture. She describes her work as "An attempt to do something a little different while keeping it simple and minimal." Peony says that she hasn't been influenced by one particular artist, but rather by the multitude of artists she comes across every day on blogs, illustrators like herself. She refers to herself as an "imperfect amateur" and when asked where she wanted her style to go as she develops it, she said "I can never tell where my style is going, but I will say that it will be quite simple, quite minimal, and something attached with emotional elements".
STEPHEN WILTSHIRE
Stephen Wiltshire is an architectural artist who draws and paints detailed cityscapes. He is widely renown for drawing incredibly realistic and accurate representations of cities. Diagnosed with autism as a child, Stephen was found to communicate through drawing and has only gone up. His favorite medium is pen on paper and he often uses minimal color. He is perhaps most famously known for his panoramas, which he often draws directly from memory after a brief helicopter ride over the area.
